Recall Alert: Cheesy Giveaways

As reported on September 15 by AOL’s Wallet Pop, Chuck E. Cheese’s is recalling 1.1 million Light-up Rings, which is amazing, because I had no idea they sold so many Light-up Ring Pizzas. I prefer pepperoni myself.

Anyway, they didn’t recall these rings because of any defect, but because they contained tiny batteries that could be swallowed by or, apparently, shoved up the nose of young children. Personally, I think it’s better to have batteries in your light-up rings than the alternative, which is to make them radioactive, but what do I know?

And, yes, some kid actually did shove one of the batteries up his nose. This is not as rare an occurrence as you might think; children seem to like shoving things up their noses. I knew somebody whose son shoved a whole bagful of M&Ms up his nose. In a panic, she called her pediatrician, who asked an unexpected question: “Where they plain or peanut?” They were plain, she told him. The doctor told her not to worry, that the situation would resolve itself in a few minutes, which it did, when a stream of chocolate started running out of the kid’s nose. M&M’s, evidently, might not melt in your hand, but they do in your nose.

Back to Chucky E Cheese’s,w hich is also recalling Star Glasses, although the post doesn’t say why.

If you have either of these products, I have great news for you. You can take them down to your local Chuck E. Cheese’s and get good stuff in return. For instance, you can trade in your Star Glasses for a choice of $4.99 (no, not $5) or a set of “Flashing Hands.” The post does not say whether the hands flash because they have edible batteries or because they were manufactured in Chernobyl.

If you need more information about these recalls, you can visit the company’s recall website which, as of the date of the WalletPop post, had no information about these recalls.

And, by the way, if anyone out there is disturbed that a children’s pizza chain even has a recall website, please raise your flashing hands.
